4.3 magnitude five earthquakes shakes Bryce Valley

4.3 magnitude five earthquakes shakes Bryce Valley

A moderate earthquake rattled the Bryce Valley area in Garfield County Wednesday night, and was felt as far as 80 miles away in Kanab. According to the University of Utah Seismograph Station website, the 4.3 magnitude quake was centered in a relatively unpopulated area of Garfield County 13 miles north of Tropic and 18 miles east of Panguitch. Nikki Giles, who lives a few miles south of Tropic, said it felt like a strong gust of wind had gone under her home. The shaking seemed to last a couple of minutes, she said, but her home sustained no damage. Don Sprecher of Kanab also felt the tremblor. "For about 10 to 15 seconds we just felt shaking," he said. The quake left Sprecher's cuckoo clock pendulum swinging, but caused no damage, he said. Garfield County dispatch reported one person had called in regarding the temblor, but no damage has been reported.
